Water Safety Instructor training

Looking for a fun & rewarding job? You could be a swim instructor!

We’ll be holding Water Safety Instructor (WSI) training October 19-23, 2025 for individuals interested in earning Red Cross certification to teach swimming and water safety courses. Participants should be age 16 or older. Please register by October 14.

WSI™ trains candidates to teach courses and presentations in the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress. The courses and presentations include Parent and Child Aquatics Levels 1 and 2 Preschool Aquatics Levels 1 – 3 Learn-to-Swim Levels 1 – 6 three adult courses as well as the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses and more. To enroll instructor candidates must be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course and successfully complete the pre-course session which includes demonstration of swimming skill at Learn-to-Swim Level 4.

The training will be held at PWC and at an offsite deep water pool.

Training dates: October 19-23, 2025

Sunday, October 19  12:00 pm-6:30 pm

Monday, October 20  4:00-9:30 pm

Tuesday, October 21  4:00-9:30 pm

Wednesday, October 22  4:00-9:30 pm

Thursday, October 23  4:00-9:30 pm

Breaks are included in each session.

The fee for the training is $200. Program participants who apply and are hired to work at Powell Wellness Center in our indoor aquatic arena may qualify for reimbursement after a successful 90-day period of employment. Starting pay is $17/hour.
