Water Safety Instructor training & certification

The first step to a rewarding job as a swim instructor? Training & certification!

We will be hosting Water Safety Instructor® training in our indoor pool for ages 15 & older.

Description from redcross.org: The Water Safety Instructor, also known as WSI™, course trains instructor candidates to teach all of the courses presented in the Swimming and Water Safety program to all age groups. This certification is the gold standard and provides the most comprehensive training for swim instructors.

The schedule:

Wednesday, July 8 – 3:00 – 9:00 pm

Thursday, July 9 – 3:00 – 9:00 pm

Friday, July 10 – 11:00 am – 7:30 pm

Saturday, July 11 – 8:00 am – 3:30 pm

Depending on the number of participants, the format may be adjusted.

Participants should be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  1. Swim the following strokes consistent with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 4 Stroke Performance Criteria:
    • Front crawl—25 yards
    • Back crawl—25 yards
    • Breaststroke—25 yards
    • Elementary backstroke—25 yards
    • Sidestroke—25 yards
    • Butterfly—15 yards
  2. Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling).
  3. Tread water for 1 minute.
  4. Complete the water competency sequence:
    • Step into water and totally submerge, float or tread water for 1 minute, rotate one full circle and orient to exit, swim 25 yards without stopping and exit the water.
