About

Powell Wellness Center (PWC) is a medically-integrated health and wellness center located in Culpeper, VA.  It is one of only two Medical Fitness Association (MFA) certified facilities in the state.

PWC offers a diverse array of health, fitness, and wellness classes and programs. Amenities include: indoor walking track; cardio & strength workout areas; group exercise classroom; cafe with smoothie bar and seating area; pool for exercise and therapy use, lap lanes, oval track pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room; massage service and locker rooms.

As an MFA certified facility, members can be assured that our staff have the education and credentials needed to provide a high quality fitness experience.  Our staff regularly participate in safety education and emergency response drills, providing a high level of confidence among our members that they are safe working out with us. And, our medical fitness programs are guided by our Medical Director and our Medical Advisory Committee.

Powell Wellness Center is operated by the Culpeper Wellness Foundation and we are committed to the Foundation’s mission of improving health and promoting wellness in Culpeper, Madison and Orange counties.

Bryan Millea

Bryan brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in recreation, and facility operations to his role as Director of Powell Wellness Center. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Adventure Travel, and Eco-Tourism and completed graduate-level coursework in Recreation Management at Old Dominion University.

Throughout his career, Bryan has focused on building strong teams, creating welcoming and inclusive programs, and ensuring safe, high-quality experiences for participants of all ages and abilities. He is passionate about supporting the mission of Powell Wellness Center and looks forward to working alongside staff, partners, and the community to expand access to medically guided fitness and wellness programs.

Outside of work, Bryan enjoys spending time outdoors. He loves hiking, camping, and paddling, and believes that time in nature plays an important role in overall health and well-being.

Josh Lemasters has been with the PWC team since May 2007. He has a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology and recreation studies from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. Josh holds lifeguard instructor and lifeguard certifications through the American Red Cross as well as a pool operator certification through the National Swimming Pool Foundation and a 10-hour general industry safety and health certification through OSHA.
 
Josh has more than 20 years of experience working in recreation and wellness centers in various capacities, such as park interpreter, lifeguard, swim instructor, pool manager and assistant manager roles.  He works to ensure that the facilities throughout the foundation are running efficiently and that members have a great health and fitness experience.  Outside of work, he enjoys training for and participating in triathlons of all distances, including Ironmans and spending time with his many siblings, relatives and friends. 

Karen Irvin

Karen Irvin joined the Culpeper Wellness Foundation team in 2022 as a Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer at Powell Wellness Center and PATH Recreation & Fitness Center. Both roles provided the opportunity to support members in their health journey, customize programs and enjoy the community of group fitness classes. Prior to joining the CWF team, Karen provided in-home physical exercise programs to clients to support and improve strength, balance and mobility skills.

Karen’s health certifications by the National Academy of Sports Medicine include Personal Training, Senior Specialties, Weight Loss Specialist and Nutrition. Karen’s experience in sport and fitness also include a black belt in Kyokushin Karate and a past member of World Congress, Team USA Martial Arts.

As the Aquatics and Fitness Program Manager, Karen will draw on previous management roles in finance, business development and property management to support staff,  collaborate with leadership and ensure a safe, engaging and high-quality experience for members.

Karen enjoys boating and being on the water with her husband, time with her children and keeping up with her grandchildren’s activities.

I am a lifelong horse lover and equestrian athlete. I retired as a medical technologist to follow my dream of becoming a horse trainer, a personal trainer, and a yoga instructor.

Amy combines her personal training and yoga expertise to offer yoga personal training. This applies the benefits of yoga to an individual’s fitness needs. This opportunity is for anyone — those brand new to yoga or experienced practitioners — to develop strength, range of motion, balance and improved posture, along with the benefits of stress reduction and relaxation.

In 2010, I lost over 50 pounds to be a better role model for my children, and went from couch potato to distance runner. I started teaching small group fitness in 2011 (circuit training, TRX, kettlebells) and have helped women, like myself, start their own wellness journeys.

I live with my husband, kids, and menagerie of pets in Madison. I enjoy running, and have completed over a dozen half marathons and four full marathons. I am also a voracious reader, love to sing and play my ukulele, and participate both on and offstage in community theatre.

I’m the Exercise Specialist at Powell. My role includes working with individuals in the FitScripts program who are transitioning from or managing a medical condition and want to improve their health through physical activity. I also coach Powell’s Rock Steady Boxing™ class for individuals with Parkinson’s to work on building strength, flexibility, and speed in support of improved quality of life. I played basketball in college and am currently the basketball coach at a local middle school. I have two handsome boys, a beautiful wife, and a wild golden retriever! I enjoy working out and hanging out with family and friends.
