We are currently hiring for positions with our lifeguarding team! If you are 16 or older, have competent swim skills, are confident in the water, and like to help people, you could be a lifeguard!

Already certified as a lifeguard?

If you already have an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program certification, please check our available positions and submit an application by visiting THIS LINK on our Careers page.

Never worked as a lifeguard? Come to our shallow water lifeguarding training!

Our next training to achieve certification in shallow water (up to 6 feet in depth) will take place on May 4 & 5. Participants who achieve certification and are hired here will have their training fee reimbursed once they have completed a successful 90-day introductory period.

There are three elements to the lifeguard training and all must be completed with a pass: swim skills pre-requisites; training to serve as a lifeguard, including rescues & CPR/FA/AED (professional certification for lifeguards); and an online test.

  1. You must pass these swim pre-requisites in order to complete the training.
    • Swim 100 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
    • Tread water for 2 minutes; candidates should place their hands under their armpits.
    • Complete a timed event within 50 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using the front crawl. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are NOT allowed.
    • Submerge to a depth of 6 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and walk or swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object at the surface of the water.

2. Training will include aspects of serving as a lifeguard, rescues and CPR/FA/AED training (the CPR/FA/AED training is for the professional). The training Saturday and Sunday will last from 8:00am to 6:00pm.

3. You also will need to complete an online multiple choice exam with an 80% pass rate to complete the requirements for a Lifeguard Certification. Once you have registered with Powell, an email will be sent to you with information to register with the American Red Cross and a link to access this online portion of the course. This must be completed and a copy of the passed course brought to your first day of training.

The cost for training is $100. Participants who pass the certification and are interested in working with us will be reimbursed for their training cost after a successful 90-day introductory period.
