Our aquatics manager will host a Red Cross certification class for Shallow Water Lifeguard Training on Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. This will be held in the indoor pool at PWC. There is an online learning component.
This training provides entry-level participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 5 feet and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.
Prerequisites: Minimum age for participants is 16 years.
Participants must be able to:
- Swim 100 years continuously
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
- Complete a timed event within 50 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, submerging to a depth of 4 to 5 feet to retrieve a10-pound object, returning to the surface and walking or swimming 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object, and exit the water without using steps or a ladder.
This training will include CPR, First Aid and AED. It includes access to the online lifeguard manual and exam fee, plus hip pack and resuscitation mask. The class fee is $245.
